Catch a ride on a real Vintage main line Steam Train out into the countryside, to the quaint Magaliesburg Station.
On this very special trip, vehicles from the Tiger Moth Club of South Africa and the Vintage & Veteran Club will join the Reefsteamers Steam Train for the journey from Krugersdorp to Magaliesburg, providing a unique and spectacular experience featuring the sights and sounds of a bygone era.

There are many things to do in Magaliesburg during your 3 hour visit and you can find a quaint restaurant (www.magaliesmeander.co.za) or you can buy a ticket for a bus trip (while on board the train) to Magalies Sleepy River and enjoy a braai or picnic.

What are you allowed to bring on the train?  This is a very popular question and here is the answer – you can bring along a cooler box (or two), deck chairs to use at Magaliesburg, meat to braai (and braai equipment, such as tongs etc), alcohol (although over indulgence is not tolerated on the train), snacks, cooldrinks etc.

 Program to be announced

Saturday 13. July 2019 Winter Photo Shooting @ Reefsteamers Steam Depot

A winter photo shoot  is scheduled for 13th July 2019, specifically for steam loco enthusiasts / action photographers to access the Reefsteamers depot in Germiston to photograph a 12AR and possibly a 15F loco in steam doing repeated run pasts in the beautiful early morning light. All action will take place within the Reefsteamers security area where there is secure parking.

As well as a running a loco in steam there are many other photographic opportunities - several parked locos including a condensing 25 class, 25Nc's, partially stripped locos, derelict wagons, coaches, sheds and large workshops with a 15CA, Class 6 locos, coaches and other equipment under repair.

We assemble at the depot just before dawn for a quick cup of coffee - the freezing weather makes for fantastic steam photography at a cost of R750 per photographer and R700 per accompanying visitor. For safety reasons young children (ie below 15 )are not allowed. We restrict numbers to 30 photographers at each shoot to ensure all ‘get the shot’. Early booking is essential.

These monies all go to preserving vintage steam locos in South Africa. Please contact me at photo@reefsteamers.com to make your booking.
