Reefsteamers welcomes you on board the Heidelberg Knit Train. Take Jozi's own steam train to one of South Africa's most interesting towns. Steeped in history, this town, at the foot of the Suikerbosrand, once acted as a capital during the Anglo Boer War
The 48 km journey takes you through breathtaking farmlands and countryside to the border of Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
Our food truck on Rails offers tea, coffee, hot Chocolate, cool drinks, water, chips, sweets, chocolates, home made cupcakes and the famous Galaxy Fudge.

Estimate arrival in Heidelberg at 12:15. Take a pleasant walk from the new to the old, The 10-15 min walk has watering points along the way. if you feel that you won't make the walk please let us know when booking and we will ensure you get a personalized shuttle to the museum.
Departure from Heidelberg at 15:30, as the sun starts to make her way down to the western horizon, we make our way back to the City of Gold. let the clickety-clack of the old rock you to sleep as you make your way back to the new. The spectacularly restored original old Heidelberg railway station, will simply blow your mind. Enjoy amazing food at The Culinary Express that is housed in vintage train coaches from days gone by. Quench your thirst at the incredible Heidelberg Brewhouse with lots of local craft to choose from. There is a lot for kids to do and enough shade for the family. Rest and relaxation is the order of the day.
Please not: The Heidelberg Museum is not a Picnic Spot, the Culinary Express is a Restaurant and no food/beverages is allowed to brought with into the venue

Please note that there is a no smoking policy on our train, which is in line with the Government's policy on smoking in public areas. Reefsteamers coaches are 'Right of Admission Reserved', thus we reserve the right to ask you to disembark at any point on the journey should you have not paid for the trip or be causing discomfort to other passengers due to unruly behaviour. Steam can be substituted by diesels as last resort when all steam traction is down because of unexpected failure or maintenance
